My Dear Sir,

Your communication of the 13th inst was duly received.
I owe you an apology for my remissness in writing to you and acknowledging [[strikethrough]] the receipt of [[/strikethrough]] your courtesy and kindness in assisting our agents at your place. At the present time the advice and cooperation of such man so as yourself is more needed than ever as we do not have the military force to sustain our position but are obliged to depend on the aid of those persons who can look upon the condition of affairs without that feeling of prejudice with which unfortunately so many are marked. As well as myself the General appreciates and thanks you for the assistance you have rendered.
