I have the honor to refer you to my letter of March 1866 enclosing a deed, of, the Briarfield Iron Works in Alabama transferred to me by the [[Hon.?]], Secretary, of the Treasury, and by me sold, in pursuance of orders from my immediate commander, with, other papers. You may remember that your kindly promised to procure the legislation by 'Congress necessary to perfect the title, to, the property in question, and suggested that a message upon the subject would be sent, in to Congress by the President
That having seen any notice of such a message in the reports of Congressional proceedings which here reached me, I take occasion to recall the matter to your attention and beg you to advise me as to what action has been taken with references thereto

I have the honor to acknowledge the, of yours, of the 28th inst, and in reply to say that the appropriation you refer to has not been made as yet. 
The Bureau of course had nothing to do with the "freedman George" being notified to desist from teaching, but, on, the contrary it desires that he should continue, and will afford him all the protection and assistance in its power.
