Colonel

I have the honor to state that more officers are required at this Post.
There is no officer available at these Hd Quarters for any Special duty that may arise.

I respectfully suggest that Co "A" 1st Battalion now at Fort Gaines be transferred to this Post without detriment to the Service, and would ask the approval of the Maj Genl. Comdg for such transfer.
The Company is small and has two officers. There will be two Companies and five Officers left at Fort Gaines after such change.

The number of men gained to the Post would be of advantage should any exigency requiring troops arise as there are but few men for duty here on account of the great amount of sickness prevailing.

require that I should be in Selma for one day.
I shall therefore start for that point tonight and return tomorrow night.
