Major

Your communication of the 26th inst is received. Genl. Swayne left for the North yesterday and will not be back till the 20th Nov. His intention I think is that you shall expend $40,000 in purchasing Corn and Bacon in quantities proportional to Mr. Cruikshanks estimate exclusive of transportation. I have telegraphed him at Lynchburg in regard to this, and will forward his answer to you at Mobile as soon as received. When do you leave for New Orleans. As to shipping supplies to Eufaula via Montgomery that question would seem to be determined by the point from whence the supplies came. If from the South and transportation up the Chattahoochee is impracticable, it will be necessary to ship via Montgomery, and thence by Rail to Columbus. You must use your own judgement as to the best way of shipment. Arrangements are being made to pay vouchers on presentation here to Col Beecher in Drafts on New York.

Please forward your telegraphic address. Instructions will be sent to the Tuscaloosa Agent to receive the Stores at whatever point it is found practicable to ship them to.
