In reply the General commanding directs me to say that you are authorized to exercise your own discretion in the matter, taking care however, that no injustice is done to Officer, Soldier, or Government employee, through the civil authorities being allowed to arrest them. Major I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 22nd inst requesting that Lieut- Shorkley be ordered to join his Company, and to say that the services of Lieut S- in the Bureau R.F. and A.L. cannot at present be dispensed with. As soon as Captain Ogilby (who is expected) returns to that Post, Lieut S- will be ordered to join his Company. An Order has been issued from these Head Quarters for the transfer of Co "D" 3rd Butt 15th Infty to this Post. If Lieut Savage should be still on Court Martial duty, on receipt of the Order, you will please relieve Lieut Tule from duty with your command, and have him conduct the Company to this place By Order Major General Wager Swayne J.
