I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 12th inst and to say that the Weekly Station Report for Dec 29th 66, was forwarded from these Hd Qrs on the 9th inst; the delay was caused by having to wait for Report from Selma. Your attention is respectfully invited to the enclosed notice clipped from the "Montgomery Mail" of Dec 14th which will give you some idea of the irregularity of Mail communications between here and Selma. Hereafter Weekly Station Report will be promptly made out at the end of each week from latest Reports received, unless otherwise ordered from your Head Quarters.

Very Respectfully
Your Obdt Servant

Enclosed please find 12 transportation orders to be used under provisions of G.O. 135 War Dept A G.O. 1865, which is the only order under which free transportation is given. Said order does not provide for giving transportation to such persons as are not dependent upon the Government for their support. In the case of John Phillips, if he is old enough to take care of himself and able to work he is not a proper person to give free transportation to, under said order.

Very Respectfully

I have to request an early reply to this letter, and to ask that you will make statement as to the correctness of the womans complaint.

I have the honor to ask that there may be sent me for official use three (3) copies of the "Compendium of General Orders affecting the Regular and Volunteer Forces for 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, and 1865. A larger number than three could be used with advantage to the service.

Your communication in reply to my letter of the 7th inst is received. In reply I have to say that the question as to the legality of transfer of contract is one to be decided by the courts but it seems to me that the that the most practical course would have been to annul
