You will please endorse upon the enclosed communications the time when the same were written.  Stating whether it was before or after the time that Bvt. Maj. D.M. Meredith had been notified by you that you had received an order from the A.A.A.G. Sub Dist. of Alabama placing him in close arrest at the Post of Montgomery Ala.

You will please report to this office what action has been taken to punish the men of your Command who have been conducting themselves in a disorderly manner in the streets of this City for two or three days past, enclosed is a list of names some of the men who have been charged with disturbing the peace.  

You will investigate the matter and report as soon as practicable.  You are directed to put a stop to such conduct on the part of the soldiers of your Comd.
