Kinsman Supt 395 Head Quarters Sub Dist of Alabama Montgomery Ala Feb 12" 1867 348/ Coleman Hon. Walter Mayor of Montgomery Sir A colored man named Danl Thompson makes complaint at this office that last night he was robbed of the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars, at the depot, the pocket book containing his money being snatched out of his hand by a white man who asked him to change a twenty dollar bill. He describes the person who robbed him as a young man or boy, beardless, about five (5) feet, four (4) inches high, fair skin, gray or blue eyes, black hair cut short, dressed in black, low crowned hat with a narrow stiff brim, black sack coat; and black pants. Thompson says that the colored employees at the depot told him such tricks had often been played there before and that a man answering to the description of the thief had been often seen about the depot. The thief has not as yet left for the east as the eastern train had gone when the robbery was committed. I would ask that your police may be put on the track of this man, and that if possible he may be apprehended and brought to justice. The party robbed is living now, with a colored man named Jessie near the buildings of the R.R. Co in whose employ the later is. Very Respectfully Your obdt servant O.D.
