Madam

I have to say in answer to your letter about your brothers and sisters that inquiries have been made in all the colored churches and among the colored people in the city and no news of them has been got. All that we can find out is that all the children had been taken away before your mother died, except Emily. Nobody here is able to tell where they were taken to, and nobody can tell what part of Texas Emily was taken. Texas is a very large State, and we do not know what part of Texas to write to for information about her.
