You will please detail one Non-Comd Officer and two privates from your Command who are to be sent by ambulance about 30 miles into the country early tomorrow morning for the purpose of carrying out orders from these Head Quarters.  The object is to get possession of some colored children new held in slavery by their former owners.  You will please detail such men as are likely to take an interest in accomplishing the object in view.  The Non-Comd Officer will report at this office without delay for instructions.

Complaint is made at this office that you unlawfully hold in your possession a child named Cornelia, daughter of 

That on the mothers presenting the enclosed paper which certifies that the letters of apprenticeship were revoked by the Judge of Probate you refused to give up the child and threatened the mother with personal violence should she again return to your place.  The mother being thus prevented from obtaining peaceable possession of her child notwithstanding the fact that the civil authorities have revoked your right to hold her, the Asst Commissioner directs that you at once deliver said child to its mother.

Complaint being made at this office that you hold in your possession a child named Lucy daughter of Wesley Griffin and official information having been received from the Probate Judge of this County that said child is not and has not been apprenticed to you, the Asst Commissioner directs that you deliver said child to the custody of Corporal Orlando Burkert, what it may be forwarded to its father.

You will with two men proceed without delay to the residence of Dr H. McLain in the Southern portion of Lowndes County and deliver to him the letter herewith sent which directs him to deliver to the Mother a child named Cornelia now unlawfully held by said McLain.  You will see that Dr McLain complys with the order promptly.  The mother of the child will accompany you for the purpose of guiding you to McLain's residence and also to identify the child.  As soon as possession of the child is gained you will return through the Southern portion of Montgomery County to the mothers residence where you will leave her and her child.

You will then proceed to the residence of Geo. W. Friar who lives at or near Sharpsville in this County where you will deliver the letter addressed to the latter and which directs him to deliver to you a child named Lucy daughter of Wesley Griffin now unlawfully held by said Friar.  Upon gaining possession of the child you will at once bring it to these Head Quarters.
