General

I have the honor to report that after protracted detention by high water in North Alabama, I reached this place again today. The Posts of Selma, Talladega, Demopolis and Huntsville, were successively visited, I think with good results. So soon as accumulated business has been got under way, I shall write you more in detail. No Washington mail has been received for a week past; which will account for silence in regard to matters which may have been referred here. I find awaiting me copies of your last Annual Report, and am grateful for your kindly treatment of affairs in Alabama.
