I respectfully ask that the rate of compensation to Mr. S.S. Gardner Sub Asst Comr of this Bureau at Greenville Ala be increased to one hundred fifty dollars per month under General Orders No 17-II War Dept. A.G.O. 1867.

Mr Gardner has been on duty in this State since the first organization of the Bureau at a salary for the most time of one hundred dollars per month which rate he is now receiving. His duties require more or less traveling and change of Station and the rate of pay he receives is inadequate.
