Major

I enclose a copy of an application of Lucy Abney for the possession of her grandchild who she alleges is held by Thos Berill by virtue of letters of apprenticeship. The Asst Comr desires that you should investigate this case and if in your opinion Lucy Abney is entitled to possession of the child that you will direct Mr Berill to surrender her and also request the Probate Judge to cancel the indentures. Do this in as peaceful a manner as possible. Persuade Mr B. to allow the indenture to be cancelled if you can, that is if you think they should be.

Please report your actions to this office

Very Respectfully
