To the Freedman
Employed on the
Berkley Plantation in
Bulloch County
/

It is reported to me that the death of your late Employer has caused you to belive that you will not receive the pay that it was agreed you should have when you began work on your contract
If you should leave your work now the crop that you have planted would be ruined and then there would be nothing from which you could be paid for the work you have already done. While if you go on and make the crop there will be something from which you can receive your money.
Now; if you will go on and labor faithfully and complete the work you have commenced I will most very certain that I can to have you paid from the proceeds of what you raise. I have no doubt but what Mrs. Berkley will pay promptly your wages when they become due and that you will not require assistance from me but if it is needed I will give it to you
