In reference to the case of the assault on H M Turner at West Point I have the honor to inform you that the Probate Judge of Chambers County has been ordered to arrest the man Shepherd charged with the assault, to examine into the facts, and to cause him to be punished in such manner as the nature of his crime may warrant

Your letter of the 30th ult addressed to the Major Genl Commdg relative to R.R. iron at Ft Morgan and expenses incurred by you under direction of Maj G.H. Tracy 10th Infty Sub Asst Commissioner Bureau &c Mobile Ala, has been received, I am directed to inform you that it has been the uniform practice of these Headquarters not to dispute the claims of other Depts of the Government in such cases
The expenses incurred under direction of Maj Tracy will be examined and considered if forwarded by him to this office with a statement of the case.
