13" Indiana Cavalry.  He was admitted into the Bureau Hospital June 5th, and died this morning.

He will be buried in the soldiers cemetery of this place.  His discharge is herewith forwarded you.  He leaves two (2) little girls who are now at the Hospital.  I presume that you will wish to take the children to your own home, and would be glad to know from you as soon as possible what arrangement you can make as to sending for them.

Captain,

A communication of the 4" inst has been received from Mr John Wright, Deputy Assessor for Butler County, who states that you have interfered with his execution of the State law which imposes a tax on pistols &c held by other than regular dealers in the same.  The Ass't Comm'r directs that you cease such interference, as said law is held to be in force.  Should you believe that any civil officer is making distinction of race or color in the execution of a law you will make report thereof to this office.

Mr Wright will be notified of the direction here given.

In reply I have to state that the Assistant Commissioner has directed Capt Peck to cease such interference, and to report to this office any cases where distinction on account of race or color are made in the execution of any law.
