Mobile, Ala Sir The enclosed copies of letters of the 5" and 6" insts from Bvt Brig Genl E. Whittlesey are forwarded for your information. Very Respectfully Your obd't serv't O.D. Kinsman Sub Ass't Comm'r 281 Head Quarters District of Alabama Montgomery, Ala. July 10" 67 142/146 Arthur W.C. A.C.S. Dist of Ala. Mobile, Ala Sir By direction of the Assistant Commissioner I enclose copy of telegram this day received of Gen'l Howard. Gen'l Swayne desires Mr Nettleton to come up here in pursuance of the telegram, unless mutually satisfactory terms of agreement can be arranged between Mr Nettleton and yourself. Very Respectfully, Your obd't serv't O.D. Kinsman Sub Ass't Comm'r 282 Head Quarters District of Alabama Montgomery, Ala. July 10" 67 125/143 Shorkley Lieut Geo. Sub Ass't Comm'r Selma, Ala. Lieutenant Your's of the 8" inst, enclosing report of W.B.H. Howard, Solicitor for the 11" Judicial Circuit of Alabama, relative to the official action of J.W. Purifoy, in the case of Taylor Skinner, is received. The Ass't Comm'r desires me to say that the report of the Solicitor does not appear to show any illegal action on the part of Justice Purifoy. It appears from the report that 143 before the repeal of the Vagrant Law Skinner was arrested and tried as a vagrant, that he took an appeal to the County Court, said appeal being allowed, and he released under bond. The case of obtaining money under false pretences does not appear to have been before Justice Purifoy. If there any other points in this case which show illegal action on the part of the Justice you will please report them. Very Respectfully Your obd't serv't O.D. Kinsman Sub Ass't Comm'r 283 Head Quarters District of Alabama Montgomery, Ala July 10" 67 142/147 Shorkley Lieut George. Sub Ass't Comm'r Selma, Ala Lieutenant Your's of the 8" inst, asking that Mr Hamill may be appointed Chief Clerk in the Q.M. & Comms'y Depts of the Bureau at Selma, at $125.00 per month, is received. Mr Hamill is now clerk in the office of the Post Q.M. at this place. In justice to that officer Mr Hamill could not leave his office before the 1" or 10" prox as there is now no one to fill his place. Mr Hamill has not been on duty in the Q.M. Dept, but believes himself competent to fulfill the duties. He is perfectly conversant with the duties of the Commissary Dep't, and would, I believe, give satisfaction. If you can wait until the time mentioned application will be made to the Commissioner for his appointment. Very Respectfully, Your obd't serv't O.D. Kinsman Sub Ass't Comm'r 284 Head Quarters District of Alabama Montgomery, Ala July 10" 67 118/145 Gardner S.S. Sub Ass't Comm'r. Greenville, Ala. Sir Your's of the 9th inst. relative to registration
