Yours of the 13" inst, stating that a Government horse is your possession has died, and that your own horse was stolen while being used in the discharge of your official duty, and asking how you can be indemnified for said loss, is received.  In reply I have to say that if you will forward your claim for indemnification with an affidavit setting forth the facts in the case, amount paid for the horse, and that it was being used in the discharge of official duty at the time of its loss, the papers will be forwarded with favorable endorsement to the Commissioner for his action.

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt this day of your communication of the 11" inst, enclosing discharge certificate of Elijah Wiggins - formerly Private Co "K" 14" U.S. Col'd Troops, and stating that his claim for bounty has been allowed, and that the amount is in the hands of the Chief Disbursing Officer for remittance to claimant.

Communication and discharge paper are this day forwarded to Bvt Brig Genl J.B. Callis Sub Asst Comm'r at Huntsville.
