It is stated at this Office that in the levying of an execution against the property of a Mr. Childs whose place is some three miles from Eutaw, a certain number of bales of cotton - (to wit 18), the property by contract of certain freedmen was taken in satisfaction of part of said execution.  The Asst, Commissioner directs that a report of this case be made at once to this Office.

The communication of Lt. Joseph Logan A.A.Q.M. of the Bureau of Mobile of date of 16th inst. asking to be relieved and mustered out of the service,approved by you on same date, is received.  It will be forwarded "approved" today.  It is thought that the duties heretofore performed by Lieut Logan can be added to your own without inconvenience on an additional clerk being furnished you.  If you will therefore recommend a person for that position his appointment will be at once asked for.
