Dear Sir

I am this morning in receipt of your note of 6th inst. What you say about Mr Branch is new to me, I will endeavor to see to it.

There is now a clear opportunity to do an excellent and enduring work in Mobile. The Mobile County school is now controlled by a majority of loyial men, and of the highest character as well. It has been authorized by law to issue $100,000 8% bonds which are abundantly secured, for the extension of its operations. If it can now dispose of part of these, it is desirous to make full and equal provision of schools for colored children. The schools maintained by it have already had a high scholastic character and I have little doubt they would be glad to employ at their own expense the teachers whom you have selected. Meanwhile the matter drags, because the Bureau is not authorized to buy the ground on which to put up buildings, and we do not seem to get on foot a proper effort to procure it otherwise.

Cannot you find some friends of education in Chicago who will take at least enough of these to buy the ground on which to put up schools for colored children? If you find those who will consider such a proposition I will take measures to send you full information as to the security, which is, I think, unquestionable.

Yours Very Truly
