The number both of Officers and Civilians on duty in the Bureau in this District is now small and as soon as the work of registration is completed the number will be reduced as far as possible.

Yours of the 16th inst asking appointment of H.G. Claus and Pierce Burton as Agent and Clerk in your District, is received.  Application to that effect will go forward today.  By letter of the 28th ult you were authorized to appoint agents for Hale and Greene Counties but not for Sumter as you seem to infer in your letter.  Only one more Agent besides Mr Claus will be allowed you at present.
