Genl Bureau R F and A L Washington, DC. 79/ Your communication of the 4th inst relative to amount of expenditures from the Special Relief Fund is received. In reply I have to say that thirty thousand (30000) bushels of Corn at one dollar and fifty three cents ($1.53/100) making forty five thousand and nine hundred dollars ($45900.00/100) and one hundred and two thousand eight hundred and sixty two (102862) pounds of bacon at fourteen and one half (14 1/2) cents making fourteen thousand nine hundred and fourteen dollars and ninety nine cents ($14914.99/100) were purchased under the contract with Mr Nettleton and that transportation accounts to the amount of thirteen thousand six hundred and seventy four dollars and sixty seven cents ($13674.67/100) have been paid by Bvt. Lt. Col. Edwin Beecher Disbursing officer. Transportation on rail roads which were indebted to the Government for their rolling stock &c has not been paid and this officer has no record of the indebtedness so incurred such accounts having been referred, direct by the parties to Washington. Commissioner Eufaula, Alabama. 242/270 Sir Complaint is made at this Office by Dennis Dawson (Cold) that he together with nine (9) other hands (all that there were on the place) has been driven away from the plantation of Mrs Polk near Union Springs in Bullock Co. without any settlement whatever.
