Referring to communication of the 21st Sept. from Bvt Maj Geo S. Smith Sub Asst Comr at Corinth, Miss. relative to the claim for bounty of William Walker, Private Co "C" 110th USCT, which claim was forwarded by you on Sept 18th, 1866.  I have the honor to state that Maj Smith's communication has been received back from Washington with the following endorsement and has been returned to the Asst. Comm. for Miss.

Washington DC. Oct 24th, 1867.
Respectfully returned to Asst Comr Bu &c Ala. with the information that the claim of the within named man was filed in the office of the 2nd auditor of the Treasury for adjustment Dec 4th/66 and receipt acknowledged by 2nd auditor Apl 8th 1867. The claim is awaiting its turn for settlement.

The case of David House (Cold) of Elmore County against whom two bills of indictment to wit - "Assault with intent to Kill" and "Assault and Battery" have been found, having been brought to the notice of the Asst Comr and it appearing from the statements of JW Thomas, Justice of the Peace and of Thomas H Smith Prosecuting Attorney for Elmore County that a previous trial before a Justice of the Peace was held in this case which resulted in the discharge of the defendant, and that defendant is now held to answer at the next term of the Circuit Court in the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00/100) in each case, and the Judge and Solicitor of said Circuit being absent:  it is directed that the amount of said bonds be reduced to the

sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00/100) in each case.
