Sir It has been decided that a Bureau officer accepting nomination to public office cannot retain his position in the Bureau. It is understood that you have accepted the nomination of Tax Assessor in your County. Although you have been serving without pay the rule is held to apply to yourself and your appointment as Bureau Agent is therefore revoked to take effect immediately. It is understood that you have accepted the nomination of Representative to the State Legislature and it is therefore incumbent upon you to resign your position as Clerk in the Bureau. The application made for your appointment as Sub Asst Commr has been recalled but you will be allowed compensation up to the date of your being relieved. I am now in receipt of the appointments therein asked for. I would ask that authority be granted to pay Mr. Burton at the rate of compensation allowed him as clerk up to the date at which he will be relieved by Lieut Bennett who is assigned, as Sub Asst Commr. in S.O.
