Sir: Referring to your communication of 23d inst asking for the appointment of Agents for the Counties of Marengo and Sumter, the Assistant Commissioner orders that they await the action of Congress continuing the Bureau. He does not deem it advisable to increase the number of Agents in the State if the Bureau should not be continued after July 1868, except in cases of the most urgent necessity.
