Sir: 

Referring to your communication of 23d inst asking for the appointment of Agents for the Counties of Marengo and Sumter, the Assistant Commissioner orders that they await the action of Congress continuing the Bureau. 

He does not deem it advisable to increase the number of Agents in the State if the Bureau should not be continued after July 1868, except in cases of the most urgent necessity.

By virtue of circular No. 25 dated State of Alabama, Bureau R.F and A.L Montgomery Ala April 27,1868, you are assigned to duty as Sub Assistant Commissioner for the Sub District of Claiborne, comprising the counties of Clarke, Washington and Monroe. 

You are hereby empowered to exercise and perform, within the limits of your Sub District, all the powers and duties of the Assistant Commissioner, except such as by Regulations and orders devolve upon that officer alone
