Commissioner &c Washington D.C. General: In compliance with Circular No 4 series of 1867, I have the honor to submit the following report of operations of Bureau and Freedmen's affairs for the month of June 1868. The operations of the Bureau during the month have been generally satisfactory. The stationing of troops in the different parts of the State has had a salutary effect in preventing outrages upon freedmen and has tended greatly to preserve order among all classes. Agents have been stationed in localities where urgently needed, which has tended in a great measure to assure the colored people that their interest in the growing crop or their pay for services, and their rights as freedmen will fully secured to them. The Hospital at Selma has been discontinued, and arrangements are being made to discontinue the one at Huntsville, leaving only those at Talladega and Garland in operation - which it is believed will be necessary to continue until such time as the new Civil Government of the State shall be fully inaugurated - when it is expected that it will make arrangements to take charge of all its sick and indigent.
