once discontinued,
More than the usual interest has been taken during the month in educational affairs and with encouraging results. Not so great opposition is manifest as formally, to the education of the freed people, and in all parts of the state increased interest is shown by the colored people in receiving an education for their children and themselves, new plans for the coming years are being projected, and it is hoped by the co-operation of the state, the Bureau, and the beneficial associations of the North, to import greatly increased intent to the work of Education for the future. It is expected that the Normal schools, for the education and training of colored pupils in teaching, will be opened at the commencement of the coming years in the more prominent places in the state, which will be important auxiliaries in furnishing the state with what it must have, sooner or later, native instructors for the colored people.
There is comparatively little destitution in the state, in comparison with that of last year - the maturing, and very fair average yield of the crops will it is expected, do away with necessity of the license of rations by the Government this coming winter.
The General condition of the freed people will continue to improve throughout about the state.
