Bartlett Mr. C.C.
Sub. Asst. Commissioner
Selma, Ala.

Sir:

On the 25th August 1868 I received a communication (through your office) from Mr Henley Agent of the S. and M. R.R. stating that there were a quantity of blinds &c awaiting Bill of Lading, for transportation to Talladega, Ala., which was forwarded to the Commissioner at Washington for approval, and returned by him, and forwarded to you September 7th 68 granting the same.

A copy of this letter was forwarded by the Commissioner to Capt J.W. Sunderland, D.O. B.R.F. and A.L. Miss. for information whether transportation had not been furnished by him from Selma, to Talladega, Ala, to which he replies "that Bills of Lading for the within stores to their destination was issued. The bills of lading for the Ala and Tenn. R.R. were given to the Agent of the Selma & Meridian R.R. for delivery to the Agent of the Ala & Tenn R.R. with the stores". You are therefore requested to make diligent search for these Bills of Lading and forward them to this office for cancellation.
