Selma, Ala Sir: At the request of Mr. Bartlett, I have the honor to enclose the discharge of Green Phillips, which please deliver to him, taking a receipt for the same for file at this office. I am, Sir Very Respectfully Your obedient Servant Edwin Beecher Brvt. Lieut. Col. U.S.V Asst Commr. 16 State of Alabama Bur. R.F. and A.L. Montgomery February 9 69 Riley Mr. J.W. Talladega Ala Sir: I have carefully examined all the evidence furnished me in support of your claim for damages on place occupied by us as Hospital. If you propose taking proof to contract the report of Lieut. Sherwood it would have been proper, and justice to him, to have notified him of the fact that he might also interigate the affiants. Lieut Sherwood appears to have personally impacted the premises, and came to the conclusion that whatever damages has been done, if any, is compensated by the improvements we have made on the property; a part at least of which we were, by the time of the lease, authorized to remove. Dr A.J. Gray, our late Chf Surg, and who for some time was in charge of the Hospital, inspected the premises about the time of Lieut Sherwoods report and came to the same conclusion as I have stated above. For these reasons I am not disposed to change the decision made by Lieut. Sherwood. I return the papers herewith. Respectfully &c Edwin Beecher Bvt Lieut. Col. U.S.V.A.C
