Abandoned Lands and will forward descriptions by Mail. I am looking out for the District Attorney to whom I shall submit lists of confiscated lands and as fast as title is determined or possession taken. present descriptions for assignment.

I am arguably disappointed in the reasonable temper of the planters, and the general behavior of the Freedmen. In the Cities the rabble and acting hostile and the police bent on encircling themselves. In some places of the country the negroes are taking a violent and lawless holiday. I hope to modify both soon.

There is a prospect that we shall be helped this fall by the arrival of Northern men to buy and lease plantations. Some of these have had valuable experience in Kentucky and Tennessee. One or two such already have, and practical sermonizing of the highest order.

I should be obliged by a further supply of Circulars and a file of General Orders for 1865, which I have not received. I shall be further obliged by any instructions from yourself.

I found here numerous dispatches which will be separately acknowledged, when I get a clerk or an Adjutant.
