Rugg War Dept Bureau &c office chf QM Feby 5. 1868 Respectfully returned to Bt Brig Genl J Hayden U.S.A. Asst Commr for Ala. inviting attention to endorsement from this office of April 18, May 27, and July 24, 1867, respectively as furnishing a history of this case & remarking that compliance, by the late Asst Commissioner for Alabama with the instructions contained in endorsement of July 24 1867 would long since, have disembarrassed this case of the difficulties by which it has been surrounded. Attention is also invited to enclosed copy of letter of this date to 3rd Auditor of the Treasury requesting that the accounts of Genl Callis may be suspended until he forwards amended Returns properly accounting for the 29 Cords of Wood furnished for the use of the Bureau by Mr D.C. Rugg. The Assistant Commissioner for Alabama will direct Genl Jno. B. Callis Sub Asst Comms B.R.F. & A.L. Huntsville Ala to forward amended returns of property pertaining to the Bureau for the month of Feby 1867 taking up and accounting for (29) twenty nine cords of wood delivered by D.C. Rugg as purchased and not paid for when these returns are received vouchers for the wood should be made up in favor of Mr. Rugg and forwarded for the orders of the Commr. By command of Maj Genl O.O.
