"That it is the habit of White men to hire the colored people and then drive them off without paying them, at Stevanville a man named Pace employed a man named Lucas to work for him at $15 per month to be paid at the end of the year, he turned him off without paying him. Pace declares that he left the money with the Bureau Agt at Stevanville and showed a receipt for it &c" desires a thorough investigation and report of this matter. |
