Reports upon alleged outrage upon John Adams and family, says Adams was seated upon criminal docket of Covington Co. -is a hog thief. was a rebel, exempt himself. furnished his sons with horses for Confederate service. Before these alleged outrages, he was accused of setting fire to woods to destroy fences and [[?]] his neighbors on this account orders him to leave or they would prosecute him. They went to arrest him finding him absent, arrested some members of his family, which includes four women used as his wives. Adams saw a lawyer. P.D. Page and received his advice but did not want the protection that the civil law and a verdict of a jury of his county would give him. |
