Office of Ass't. Sup't. Bureau of Refugees Freedmen &c., Greenville Aug. 26th 1865

Major C.A. Miller.
A.A.A.G.

Major: - When at Montgomery, I requested Lieut. McGogy; when he sent the mule team down, to also send forage with it, as I had none here, and could get none without paying for it. The team arrived safely, but no forage was sent. As soon as it arrived, I telegraphed to the Q.M. to send me forage, as I had none. He has not done so, and, I shall be compelled to pay out of my private funds for it, before I can get any from Montgomery.

I am told, the reason why he did not send it, was because my requisition was not sent to him. I did not consider that as absolutely necessary, for I could just as well have signed receipts afterwards.

The reason why I did not forward my requisition, was because I had no time to rule them out, at that time, as I do all of my writing myself and, I thought as he had plenty of help, he could [[strikethrough]] do that himself [[/strikethrough]] have his clerks do that. I have been investigating a case of murder, which was committed a short time ago, about 3 miles from this place. A Cold woman was found dead; suspicion rests strongly, on a citizen here, and I have pretty strong circumstantial evidence against him; rather, think, I can prove enough to convict him.

Yours Respectfully
A.L. Brown Capt
and Ass't Sup't.
