Colonel I have in my possession considerable furniture, known as the property of Maj. W. H. Chase, who formerly resided in Pensacola Fla. The furniture was removed to this place for safe keeping and staid here. Maj Chase, was formerly an officer in our Army, in the engineers. At the commencement of the war. Maj. Cl headed the party who captured the Pensacola Navy Yard, and was quite conspicuous, but not long after went north, or to Europe. He is wealthy, I am told, and owns several plantations.

Soon after my arrival here, learning of the condition of this property, and needing furniture for my office, I took charge of it, for the W.G., and fixed up my office with it.

This morning Maj Louis the U. S. Treasury agt presented me with an order from Capt W [[Levine?]] for the release of the furniture. I notified him
