he could not have the property, and that the Treasury Dept. did not have it in charge.

Maj Chase has a daughter by the name of Annie, and it is claimed she owns the furniture but I am informed, this is merely a dodge to get it in their possession. At any rate McCulum now the Agt. here, did not have it in charge and I considered it swindling game. The furniture I spoke to the Genl. about, and he said he would send down for it but did not do so As he needed it very much. I don't want the parties to get charge of this property, as it is unjust. We need it all, and ought to keep it. Please send me instructions

Also inform me if I am to collect the rent for the Tax in Kind storehouse here, used by Treasury Dept. and rented to them to store cotton in. The rent was due Sept 1st. - $50.00.

My hand is still very sore, but I manage to write a little as you observe.

I forward my Report this and am Col,. Very respectfully Your Obt. Servt
