Demopolis Ala Aug 15th 1865 Maj. Chas. A. Miller A.A.A. General Bureau of Freedman Refugees N.C. Sir: I have the honor to state that the terms of Service of my reg't expires Sep. 27th 1865. I was mustered in by promotion to date from Jan 16th 1864 but will probably be mustered out with the reg't. I have been in the service four years & while I would gladly return home, my interest in my present work induces me to remain. I am therefore willing to remain in connection with this Bureau if my services are desired either as a civilian employed, or by being transfered to a reg't that will remain in the service a year or two, I prefer the latter if it could be effected As to my character or ability as an officer, as to my interest in the condition & well-being of the Freedmen
