Respected Sir:
Having heard of your generosity and sympathy to refugees and Exiles, belonging to the latter class, I have taken upon myself the liberty of addressing these lines to you, in hope of their meeting with favor.
My father left here about two months ago for New Orleans. on applying to Captain Thompson Commanding Officer at Opelika, Ala for Transportation he was told that we could obtain it at any time, but it would be best for us to remain until the roads were completed. My father being absent attending to his property, (which has, as yet, not been restored to him) we were not informed that Free Transportation had been repealed until
