Mobile 7th Novr. 1865.

General
I have the honour to state that at the request of the Board of Trustees of the Mobile Medical College, I carried to Genl Wood today their answer to your proposal to lease the College building for three years. That document, declining to lease the building on any terms, will I presume be forwarded by the same mail which carries this.

I may add that a portion of the trustees did some months ago assume the responsibility without authority of leasing the building for two years to Genl C.C. Andrews, who failed to comply with his agreement. This was done at a time when they felt constrained from circumstances to accept any terms offered by those in power.

I had hoped that the communication of the Trustees would find you in New Orleans & that you would give it your early attention as the building, museum etc are going to ruin so rapidly from leakage that I feel assured you would not hesitate for a moment to give possession if you could have examined for yourself the
destruction which is rapidly going on.
