Sir
We the undersigned citizens of Girard Alabama petition to you for relief from the nusence of so many Negroes that is congregated here. So many of them are congregated hear and they have no viserable means of supports and the petty steeling is so frequent that something must be done. The negroes are not permitted to cross the River into Columbus and there the military authority will keep them down but hear there is no authority to disperse them. We therefor ask for authority or a Military Guard to protect our self and our property.

Please let us hear from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours Obdt
