I would most respectfully state for your information a few facts relative to the condition of the Freedmen in that portion of Alabama embraced in Choctaw Co. and other places near the boundary line. I have been assigned to duty at this post which comprises the counties of Wayne, Jones, Perry and Greene, and having numerous complaints made from Choctaw Co. which is beyond my jurisdiction. I beg leave to call your attention to the cruelties and oppression practiced by Planters on their hands and former slaves.
