Brig. Genl. Wager Swayne,
Asst Com. Bureau, R.F. and A.L.
Montgomery.

Gnl.
We have the honor to respectfully ask, that we be given possession of a Farm and dwelling House, in this County Known as the Spring place. We have purchased the place of Steven S. Ewing. who is the legal and proper owner; The farm was seized as abandoned property by Genl. C. B. Fisk in the day of August 1865, when in fact it was never abandoned, being in possession of and occupied by Mr. Ewing. for some time after the occupation of the Country by The Federal forces; Mr Ewing left here for his plantation in Mississippi under a pass from Genl Logan U.S.A. then Commanding here; leaving this place in charge of his servants who have continued to occupy it to the present time; Mr Ewing's pass was granted by Genl Logan, with a knowledge that he did not intend returning here during the War, being an old and infirm man who desired to remain in Mississippi with his children.
