I will leave home before you reach this place, but as I am a friend of the Federal Government but unknown to you, I feel it my duty to Major Goodfellow Superintendent of the "Freedmen Bureau" of Huntsville to have testimony to his impartiality & justice in discharging the duties of his office, between the whites and freedmen, The people of this section of the State, ought to be thankful that Major Goodfellow has been sent among us as an Officer of your Bureau", - for there could not have been had in this or any other State, an officer, who discharges his duties with more wisdom, humanity, & justice than he does. Major Goodfellow has deported himself as a gentleman since he has been among us, and has done more to produce harmony among the Colored
