Yesterday Genl Smith was relieved  here by Genl Girard. Gen'l Wood issued the order and Genl Smith considers himself sacrificed to his principles and action in connection with this Bureau. 
He directed me to say to you, to beware of the officer connected with the State Government who came to Mobile with you, and other opinions better stated when I see you. 
Since my arrival I have been daily expecting to leave and consequently make no permanent arrangements as to board here, my expenses have consequently been to me very large. Did I know I was to be here permanently or any definite time I would feel authorized to make a change more consistent with my means.
