troops, and remaining so until the close of the war, and as a consequence all Railroad communication being severed, together with the great difficulty of procuring permission to pass the lines, I was unable to carry out my intention of returning.
The manager referred to was forced to leave the place in Nov. following by Federal troops at which time there was left on the farm 2500 bls of corn, 20 or more bales cotton, 40 head of horses and mules, a large stock of cattle hogs and sheep, together with full equipment of farming implements, and machinery - all of which was taken possession of by troops. 
From the spring of '64 to the present time the farm has been occupied as corral and Govt farm. Large crops were made both in '64 and '63.
The larger portion of fencing and a considerable quantity of fine timber has been destroyed. 
Trusting that my petition may meet with favorable consideration, and assistance so much needed will be granted, thereby enabling me to render aid to those who were formerly our slaves and care, and who naturally look to me for assistance I remain
