Since I made my report to you after holding the Circuit Court of Butler, I have the courts in Covington & Conecuh which closes my fall circuit. In Covington County between 50 & 60 trial Bids were found for offences committed by white men many of these for Larceny & every evidence given by the grand jury to bring all offenders to justice there are but few nigroes in the County & so far as came to my knowledge there were no presentations made by them or against them In Conecuh County the same disposition was manifested by the grand jury about the same number of bills were found, a few against negroes, but mostly against white men Same one as two cases were presented by negroes in one case I recollect a bill was found upon this evidence another case against a man named Johnson was investigated for the alledged murder of a negro. many negroes
