Office Assist Supt Bureau
Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
Dist Talladega Ala. Talladega Dec 26th 1865

Maj Genl Wager Swayne
Assist Com Bureau R.F. and A.L.

General;
My regiment the 12th Lower V.V. Inf. leaves the 27th inst and is ordered to another Department, to Memphis Tenn.
I desire to go with the regt. My health also for some time past has suffered- and that quite seriously so as to unfit me for severe labor, from the effects of this climate. I feel that a more northern climate will do much to restore my health. I therefore respectfully and earnestly ask to be relieved from duty in the Bureau and that an officer be sent or a person appointed to take my place. Please inform me by telegraph when an officer will be sent or person appointed.

Very respectfully General,
Your obt servt
J Humphrey
Assist Supt
