Washington 12 Oct. 1865.

My dear General,
I take the liberty of enclosing you a business card, indicating the where abouts and occupation of two brother lawyers. You will recognize, Este as Col of the 14th and one of your comrades in the great march.

It does occur to us that people in your department may sometimes mention to you matters which was that Washington, and that you could, with this memorandum before you, tell them that we are at their service. Este’s military standing gives him a hearing with powers here which it is not easy to get,
I trust you find your peculiar duties down there satisfactory in results. You gentlemen have a difficult tusle in hand.
Yours truly
Chas. P. James
