The Undersigned James T. Gooch in connection with one Allen T. Gooch his father claims to be the owner of a certain lot of corn raised during the year 1865 upon the farm of one J. J. Giers in Morgan County Alabama and recently transferred to said Giers by an order issued by you dated September 30th 1865 for the benefit of certain colored people said to be interested in said crop by reason of the non-compliance of the undersigned with the regulations of the Freedman's Bureau in relation to the labor of freedmen. The undersigned alleges that he has in no wise violated any law of the land or regulation of the said Bureaus, that he has in no manner mistreated or driven off the said negroes, but he avers that said lot of corn amounting to about 200 bushels is the exclusive property of himself and faction.
