Ellen Geirs (colored) Live at Mr. Geirs. Mr Giers sent some things to feed the family, sent sugar, coffee corn also a mule a boy Will Dufer (colored) came with them who worked in the crop some time after he came and then left. Mr Gooch, deft., got 2 sacks of that corn took it home. 

Live in rebel lines Mrs. Giers brought the corn & things  This boy went off after staying 2 mos., also 2 other colored boys left. Mr. Gooch, deft., worked in crop. Mrs. Giers went over to see her husband and bought these things back

9  J. J. Gooch, Deft., testifies. In fall of 1863 My father was living near Springs - Giers owned the Valhimosa Springs - Gier's wife moved up to my fathers for benefit of her health. At this time Giers concluded to go across the river (Tenn.) In Dec, 1863 my father moved to the Springs Giers there at Time, left every thing with my Father. Some 6 weeks or 2 mos. after Mrs. Giers went to see her husband was gone 2 or 3 mos. came back & remained (with repeated visits across river to her husband) there all the time  Father and I raised crop back last & this year. Gathered about 40 or 50 bbls. of Corn this year - Colored people belonged to my father, some 12, 4 field hands, we supported them
